Summer storms make it fun to be a kid again

Category:

The severe summer storm this weekend was refreshing, fun and memorable. As soon as it started raining, we found our boots and raincoats in the back of the closet and ran outside to look for puddles to jump in. Between our bouts of laughter and giggles we spotted the lightning and counted for the thunder. When the lightning and thunder got too close we ducked back undercover to keep safe from the storm and drew pictures with our sidewalk chalk on the front porch. There were no electronics on Saturday night - no TV, no computer games, no music – no electronics except for the lightning show and the rolling thunder. (oh, we did use the microwave to make some mini-smores) It was refreshing, fun and brought back memories from my childhood when I would enjoy the summer storms with my mom and count for the thunder after spotting some lightning. I don’t know if my 2 ½ year old son will remember the storm this past weekend, but if he does, I hope he will have fond memories and never become scared of the lightning and thunder. I also hope that when he’s older he will still want to turn off the TV at a moment’s notice to enjoy a show by Mother Nature with his mom.
