Path Clearing: Cutting Through the Idea Clutter

Dawn McCooey of the Women's Enterprise Centre shared an insightful workshop on
how to cut through the idea clutter and explore ways on how to work ON the business instead of IN it.

The group worked through various exercises while working on a Case Study.

Exercise 1: Your Priorities and Vision
Understand your values, mission and dreams. These will be your foundation for choosing and developing strategies and implementing hem.

Exercise 2: Factors Outside Your Business That Influence Your Business
Opportunities - Begin by examining the world in which you live your life and operate your business.
Threats - Think about the things that are beyond your control that could influence your business negatively.

Exercise 3: List the Characteristics of Your Business
Strengths - Step back and take a look at your own business strengths.
Weaknesses - Think of any areas of weakness that exists in your business.

Exercise 4: Create Your Strategic Alternatives - Matching Strengths with Opportunities & Threats
Strategies to Maximize Your Strengths to Manage Your Threats

Exercise 5: Create Your Strategic Alternatives - Matching Weaknesses with Opportunities and Threats
Strategies to Minimize Weaknesses and Threats

Now What?
1. Do the strategies align with your priorities and vision?
2. Decide which strategy or strategies to pursue
3. Create an Action Plan
4. Implement, evaluate and improve

Conclusion:
Path Clearing is not a one-time activity. As you get new information about your business or personal situation, be sure to update your current strategies. Continually evaluate your progress and make changes to improve.
