Summer Writing Contest

ENTRY INFORMATION

Thank you for your interest in the new and exciting momcafé Summer Writing Contest.

We hope you will decide to enter your story or article, and inspire, inform or motivate moms all over the world.

You may send your entry/ies anytime from Wednesday, July 9 to Sunday, August 31, 2008. While the material is to appeal to moms, everyone and anyone, both professionals and amateurs are invited to participate.

Here are the categories to choose from!

1. The Great Canadian (Very) Short Story...still only 500 words allowed! Your chance to write that family friendly tale that has been nagging at you all these years. Use your creativity, show off your writing skills, maybe it will be a momcafé best seller!

2. Against All Odds...a life or business success story or a spectacular comeback. Life is full of people who have seemingly done impossible things-big and small. Everyone can make a difference. Tell us about your hero.

3. Life Lessons...practical and educational, that’s the overriding goal here. Ideas for improving one’s family life - parenting, health, safety, relaxation, life balance, finances, community, career, environment, maybe even politics!

4. If I Ruled the World...what would you do if you ruled the world? Feed the hungry, heal the sick, create peace or just finish the laundry! The greater challenge here is keeping it to only 500 words. But do your best.

5. Mom-moments...factual essay about any mom and what she means to you. Educational, moving, inspirational or just downright funny. Could be your own mom, grand mom, a friend’s mom, a celebrity mom, or a mom you would love to meet. Your story, your choice.

You’ve seen the categories, now check out our simple rules and regulations.

  • Entries must be a maximum of 500 words and relate to one of the five categories listed
  • Content and language must be family friendly, and something you believe to be of value to moms of any age. We are limited to entries in English only at this time.
  • You may enter more than once and in each category if you wish. Please mark each entry with the category in which it is being entered, and with your full name, email address and contact telephone number.
  • Pictures or illustrations may be included, but please make sure you have the legal right to use them.
  • You must specify if you are a professional writer. That is, your make a living by writing.
  • It must be your own work, and you agree, by entering this contest, to allow momcafé to use the entry/ies on the momcafé website or in print, as we see fit.
  • All entries must be received by Sunday, August 31, 2008. No exceptions.
  • Entries must be submitted by email to summerwritingcontest@momcafe.net.
  • Entries will be posted on the momcafé website in order for website visitors to vote on their favourite entries.
  • They will be graded by website visitors on a scale of 1 to 5. The more website visitors submit their grades the higher the total rating. The entries will be judged on four criteria - Creativity, Content value (to moms), Writing Skill and Overall enjoyment.
  • The ten most popular entries as voted by website visitors will be reviewed by a selected jury who will rate them on originality, suitability and interest. Their decision will be final.
  • Please refer to our technical specifications if you wish to include illustrations or photos.

The Grand Prize package is a $500 shopping spree at Please Mum! Of course, the best prize of all will be the recognition you will receive!
